Therian was engaged to design a new purpose-built veterinary hospital for Wingham & Valley Vets, situated on a parcel of land comprising three blocks in Wingham. The 500m² facility was serves as a state-of-the-art animal hospital accommodating a large shed for equine and large animal care, as well as mobile veterinary storage.

Therian provided comprehensive architectural services, from developing the client brief and architectural conceptual designs to securing  development approval, and preparation of the design-intent architectural drawings for tender.

Inspired by the heritage character of Wingham’s main streets, the hospital’s design complements the town’s aesthetic while incorporating modern functionality and vets’ needs.

The facility includes:

• A welcoming and spacious waiting room with separate dog and cat waiting areas
• 6 consultation rooms – 2 being cat-specific to reduce cat fear due to dog smells or pheromones
• 2 state-of-the-art small animal surgical suites built to Practice of Excellence standards 
• Large separate spacious dog and cat treatment areas
• Dedicated radiology and dog reproduction rooms
• Sound proofing of all dog hospitalisation areas so hospitalised animals are less likely to hear eachother
• Separate dog and cat hospitalisation areas contributing to a fear-free and cat-friendly environment

Wingham & Valley Vets officially opened the new facility in October 2023 and now provide 24-hour emergency services for small and large animals across Wingham, Taree, Harrington, Forster, and the Manning Valley areas. Since opening, they have become a Gold-Accredited Cat-Friendly Hospital, and are the only Vet between the Hunter Valley and Brisbane to have the highest level of cat-friendly accreditation.
