The Science Behind Healthier, Happier Pets

Pet Acoustics is the founding organisation behind species-specific psychoacoustics research

Proven through Biometric Studies

The following physical metrics have been recorded in dogs, cats, and horses—
with the same principles applied to birds and rabbits in observatory studies.

Lower Pulse
Rate

Pulse rates in animals were studied showing lowered pulse rates indicating balance and calm during Pet Acoustics listening sessions.

Improved Heart Rate Variability (HRV)

HRV is the fluctuation in the time intervals between adjacent heartbeats. Higher HRV is a positive indicator of better health and less stress demonstrated in our studies.

Decreased Cortisol
Levels

Cortisol is the stress hormone produced when animals experience stress. Salivary tests revealed Pet Acoustics music directly lowered cortisol levels.

Calmer
Activity

Observational studies reveal a consistency of environment through our music provided pet subjects with a sense of wellness and safety.

Pet Acoustics Audiometric Study Reveals Patterns of Age-Related Hearing Loss

Given the importance of auditory communication in these species, understanding age-related hearing loss is crucial for enhancing animal welfare and owner-pet interactions.

Biometric Study Proves Canine-Specific Music Mitigates Stress Levels

To modify behavioural stress in dogs, Janet Marlow, Founder of Pet Acoustics innovated a science-based music process specifically for canine, feline and equine acute hearing.

Clinical Study Proves Benefits of Feline-Specific Music Through Biometric Data

The three-month clinical study monitored nine adult cats measuring their pulse rates, HRV, and activity levels determining the effects of the music.

University Study Reports Music Results in Lowering Cortisol in Horses

To evaluate the influence of a relaxing massage which the horses received in the stable, and the influence of music piped into the stable, on the long- lasting stress level of the horses.

The Process

Frequencies and decibels are contoured for specific pet hearing to reshape their listening environments from a sonic perspective.

Animal hypervigilant behavior is triggered by high and low frequencies whether indoors or outdoors. Through a proprietary process, we eliminate ultra-high and sub-low frequencies in our designed music, resulting in a comfort listening zone for pets.

Wonderful Discovery
“The most wonderful discovery in my career. With pet anxiety issues, it’s a great tool. Every animal benefits in my practice.”

Dr. Dale Krier, Creature Comforts

Great Results
“We have had great results in our clinic. The same applied to several cats with a history of being tough—they relaxed as well.”

Meet the Founder

Janet Marlow, M.A.

Since 1997 Sound Behaviorist and internationally-renown musician, Janet has championed research in pet hearing.

“People are highly reactive to sound—animals more so. Both rely on volume and pitch to express themselves and perceive the value of environmental harmony.”

In a musical life and surrounded by animals, Janet Marlow has always been fascinated by her pets’ reactions to her compositions. With a background in music mastery and sound engineering, Marlow set out to discover why animals are so profoundly affected by melodic sounds. She pioneered a formula of modifying frequency and decibel levels according to the hearing range of the animal, introducing “species-specific music” to provide calm for animals worldwide.

By 1997, Janet debuted Pet Acoustics and quickly became prominent in the industry for her psychoacoustics research. Pet Acoustics designs audio products tailored for the individual sensitive hearing ranges of various pet species. Published and peer-reviewed results have been clinically proven to improve physical states in canines, equines, and felines. Ongoing biometric studies have revealed lowered pulse rates, improved heart rate variability, decreased cortisol levels, and calmer activity. Using the same natural techniques, improved behaviors in birds and rabbits are observable.

Sound behavior is a new field of study that describes the way in which a being acts in response to a particular situation or stimulus from sound as a sensitivity to an external or internal stimuli. As a Sound Behaviorist, Janet specializes in studying animal auditory perception and responses to modified acoustics. Marlow’s discovery and application of species-specific music mitigates physical states and behaviors of animals.
